101 Fernwood Road is a one-story, ranch-style mansion that was built in 2008, in an atypical style for New England. But that didn’t stop it from becoming the most expensive home sold in Brookline so far this year.

It went on the market last June for $18 million and sold last week for the cheaper (but not so cheap) price tag of $13.5 million, as first reported by the Boston Business Journal.

The previous owners were the director of Morgan Stanley and his wife, who are leaving their estate in Brookline for the beaches of Miami.

The listing boasts that the home, which has a total of 12 rooms, is custom built with 10-foot ceilings, state-of-the-art-technology, and a pond with a Zen garden.

But don’t forget the gym with the sauna, the screened porch with heating, the eight-car garage, and the pool with a waterfall.

This home is not the only big purchase in the greater Boston area this year.

101 Fernwood beat out a Warren Street mansion sold for $11.8 million in April. Boston’s most expensive sale this year was on Commonwealth Avenue in Back Bay for $11.6 million.

Just last month, a home in Boston’s most expensive neighborhood, Louisburg Square in Beacon Hill, went up for sale with a listing price of $11.6 million. That home has a sale pending, but final details haven’t been released yet. When they are, we’ll let you know if Boston gets a new champ.
