These Mass. ZIP codes are two of the richest in the country

It may not come as a surprise that ZIP codes in Weston and Boston proper are two of the richest in the country.

A Bloomberg study looked at IRS data for 22,000 ZIP codes to determine which had the highest average adjusted gross income.

Weston (02493) and Boston (02110) both cracked the national top 20 list. Weston’s ZIP code, ranked No. 9, had an average adjusted gross income of $860,400. The Boston ZIP code, which starts at Downtown Crossing and basically follows the Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy Greenway, was ranked No. 12 and had an average adjusted gross income of $711,900.

The top 10 richest ZIP codes in the country are:

  1. Miami Beach (33109) — $2,543,100
  2. Atherton, Calif. (94027) — $1,496,500
  3. Palm Beach, Fla. (33480) — $1,254,500
  4. Palo Alto, Calif. (94301) — $1,175,400
  5. Harrison, N.Y. (10577) — $976,200
  6. Gladwyne, Pa. (19035) — $957,200
  7. Los Angeles (90067) — $905,700
  8. Kenilworth, Ill. (60043) — $861,000
  9. Weston (02493) — $860,400
  10. San Francisco (94111) — $776,400

Bloomberg also created top 20 lists by region. In the Northeast, Weston (02493) was ranked No. 3, Boston (02110) was No. 5, Boston (02108, mostly Beacon Hill) came in at No. 18, and Wellesley (02481) hit at No. 19.
