Melville Park is known for its stunning Victorians, and this first-floor condo unit sits prettily in one with a curvy front porch, elaborate trim, and scallop-shingle details.

This duplex-style unit takes up the first floor and part of the second. From the shared entry, one enters a living room with 9-foot ceilings and crown molding believed to be original to the home. A ceiling fan hangs from an oval plaster medallion with a floral design. The room also features a bay window bump-out facing the street and built-in cabinetry.

The transition into the dining room is through a set of white French doors framed by transom and sidelight windows. Here a chandelier hangs from a medallion, casting light on a carved-marble fireplace that’s original to the home but now only decorative. This space has crown molding that’s original to the house and two tall windows.

The eat-in kitchen has been updated with white Shaker-style cabinets and stainless-steel appliances, including a gas range, that are visually offset by a granite counter with a dark, leathered finish. The backsplash is subway tiles, and one counter runs nearly the length of the room. A set of sliders leads to the fenced-in patio that’s exclusive to this unit and the backyard, which is shared with the other tenant.

Off the kitchen is a carpeted room that was once held the laundry. It now serves as a nursery, but could easily become an office. The laundry area is now in the unfinished basement.

The flooring in the kitchen and living and dining rooms is oak.

A short hallway off the kitchen goes to the first full bath and the master bedroom. The bath has a single vanity, a granite counter, and a shower/tub combination with a white subway tile surround.

The master bedroom is 236 square feet with 9-foot ceilings, a ceiling fan centered under a plaster medallion, hardwood flooring, a decorative fireplace with a white wooden mantel, and a deep closet. A pretty set of narrow doors with an intricate glass design opens to a side porch.

Stairs at the rear of the house lead to the second floor and the unit’s second bedroom, which is 136 square feet and has hardwood flooring. It is not attached to the main HVAC system, so it is heated by electric baseboards. The home has central air.

The second bath offers a tub/shower combo with a tile surround, a single vanity with a Formica top, a tile floor, and bead board.

The home comes with two off-street parking spaces, but is it less than a five-minute walk to Shawmut Station on the MBTA’s Red Line.

Kerry Dowlin of Gibson Sotheby’s International Realty is the listing agent. As of press time, an offer with a contingency had been accepted on this home, but the owner was accepting backup bids.
