The listing description for 219 Jarry St. in New Bedford starts off by stating that “there’s no other home in all of New England quite like this one.” Considering the ranch has a cabana-like indoor pool that’s a blast from the past, it’s probably right.

Listed for $595,000, the home features three bedrooms, three full bathrooms, and one half bathroom across 2,000 square feet. But that doesn’t account for all of the space, like the pool area or the finished basement, according to listing agent Lori Nery, a broker for Coastal Realty

The home was built for the current owner’s parents, Nery told Boston.com. “It was a labor of love, every inch of it.”

The current owner’s style is classical with some whimsy, Nery said. For example, one living area features a piano and portraits and paintings. The basement, however, looks as if it were delivered from the 1960s or ’70s, with wood and stone walls and a bar.

“You just figure that Austin Powers is going to come out,” Nery joked.

The home is tucked behind trees, and even though it’s near highways and the commuter rail, it is quiet and private, she said.

The lot is half an acre. “When you sit in the backyard, it goes from one street to another,” Nery said. “You’d never know you were in New Bedford.”

“To me, it’s expect the unexpected in this home,” Nery said.
