This Marblehead home was updated with a focus on functionality — from built-in cabinets to beds, every inch of space in the 2,220-square-foot home is beautifully purposeful.

“The utility of the house is exemplary without losing any of the character and warmth,” listing agent Dick McKinley of Sagan Harborside Sotheby’s International Realty said in a statement.

The antique Colonial at 7 Middle St. was built in 1709 and sits in the heart of a Marblehead historic district and near shops and restaurants. “The location simply cannot be beat,” McKinley’s said. “Many of Marblehead’s most popular amenities are just a short stroll away.”

There are no shortage of interesting details throughout, including a built-in cabinet topped with a chessboard, a window over the stairs repurposed from the home’s former outhouse, and a striking yellow accent over one of the fireplaces.

McKinley said many of the home’s features, including the beams, flooring, and fireplaces, are original.

All of the built-ins were done by local carpenter Jon Koopman, according to McKinley. They were designed to offer additional storage space and flow seamlessly with the home’s original woodwork and character.

The kitchen and dining area are open to a patio well suited for entertaining. A large shed and parking for three to four cars are also included.

One of the home’s four bedrooms is currently used as a second-floor living room, and the property has two full and one half baths. The house sits on 0.09 of an acre and is listed for $799,900.

There will be an open house at the home on Sunday, Nov. 24, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
