At this rustic townhouse at 38 Tall Pines Way in Conway, N.H., the most fervent skiers can make sure they savor each day full of fresh powder.
The four-bedroom, three-bathroom property is “exactly what you think of when you think ‘ski house,’” said listing agent Linda Pinkham, of Pinkham Real Estate. There are five skiing mountains near the Conway home — Mount Cranmore, Attitash, Wildcat, Black Mountain, and King Pine — and more within a 30-minute drive, Pinkham said.
The 2,298-square-foot home hit the market Dec. 28 for $459,000, a rare find in an era where ski country homes have been flying off the market at an unprecedented rate.
The home opens into a small foyer, with a mudroom to the right and a full bathroom with a standalone shower slightly farther down the hall. Beyond the entryway, the living room gives the first floor the rustic, ski-house feel with a wood-paneled wall, wood floors, and a wood-burning, fieldstone fireplace with a pellet stove. Sliding glass doors open onto a private deck, and natural light cascades into the room from a skylight built into the cathedral ceiling.
The kitchen, which shares an open floor plan with the living room, adds a contemporary touch to the home’s woodsy style, with new laminate flooring, stainless steel appliances, and granite countertops. The peninsula and dinette provide plenty of space to sit down for a warm meal after a long day on the slopes. More sliding glass doors in this room let out onto a smaller deck.
Upstairs, a spacious landing serves as a sitting room, where yet another set of sliding glass doors opens onto an upper deck. Two bedrooms are located to the back of this level, each with wall-to-wall carpet, a closet, and a large window that looks out to the heavily wooded yard. There’s also another full bathroom on this floor.
A spiral staircase leads up to a roomy third bedroom, which has a built-in desk along one wall, wall-to-wall carpet flooring, and a skylight.
The finished, walk-out basement is home to the family room, which opens into another room the sellers used as a fourth bedroom. The rooms were previously separated by a wall, Pinkham said, before the previous owners decided to tear it down and create a more open space. Sliding glass doors at the back of this room open into the yard.
The basement also houses a full bathroom with a combination shower/bathtub, a washer and dryer, and a utility room set up with a work bench where residents can tinker with their skis. There’s also a one-car garage and a paved driveway.
Although the community and the home seem ready-made for the avid skier, there’s still plenty to do in the warmer months.
“We’re actually busier with vacationers during spring, summer, and fall than in the winter because people come here also to hike and fish and enjoy the rivers and swim,” Pinkham said.
In the winter, however? “It’s ski central,” Pinkham said.
