I scream, you scream, we all scream – for this stunning Newton Colonial with its own ice cream bar. The 7,900-square-foot home at 1311 Commonwealth Ave in Newton, which was custom-built in 2006, was “designed by a young dreamer’s vision,” according to the listing. For $5,200,000, the home offers four bedrooms, four full bathrooms, and two half baths.

Ice cream lovers can pull up a seat at the marble-topped bar in the basement of the expansive home, grab a bowl from the built-in shelves above, and dig in. There’s a microwave cubby to the left, perfect for heating up chocolate or caramel sauce to make your sundaes all the sweeter, and there’s a stainless steel sink for easy clean up. The only thing missing is a freezer.

The ice cream bar is just one part of the entertainment hub the sellers created on this level. There’s also a media room, complete with eight cushioned reclining chairs, a gas fireplace with a stone surround, a projector and projector screen, and a surround-sound speaker system; as well as a game room the sellers outfitted with a pool table and several old-fashioned arcade games.

It’s not all fun and games: There’s also room for relaxation. The massive bathroom on this floor is home to a sauna and steam shower, perfect for loosening sore muscles after a hard workout in the home’s exercise room, which features mirrored walls and synthetic flooring. A temperature-controlled wine room with floor-to-ceiling shelves is likely to satisfy the wishes of any aficionado, and it pairs perfectly with the wet bar on the floor above.

The bar, located just past a marble foyer with a high ceiling, has an ice maker, a wine chiller, and a stainless steel sink and microwave. Wood pilasters and a mirrored backsplash may be almost enough to convince residents they’re actually out on the town, instead of steps away from the kitchen.

The bar is part of an open floor plan with the great room. The elegant space lives up to its name, with eight sliding glass doors topped with arched windows, a gas fireplace with a white stone hearth, and an ornate chandelier hanging from the tray ceiling. Sleek walnut floors run throughout most of the rooms on this level.

Period accents abound in the kitchen, including intricately carved corbels on the island and detailed stone and woodwork on the granite sinks and cabinets. Many of the appliances come in pairs — high-end refrigerators, granite sinks, dishwasher drawers, and ovens. The counters are a light-colored granite, matching the white/cream of the cabinets, and there’s a breakfast nook bathed in sunlight from a row of picture windows and a glass door that opens to the back patio.

Another room that lives up to its title is the primary suite, located on the first floor to the right of the entrance. The carpeted room has a coffered ceiling; two floor-to-ceiling windows; a kitchenette with a sink, dishwasher, microwave, refrigerator, and freezer; a chute that leads to the basement laundry room; and its own stackable washer and dryer. An elevator connects this room to the basement.

The en-suite primary bathroom is just as thoroughly outfitted, with two water closets, two vanities with a sink and marble countertops, a walk-in shower with several heads, a jetted tub, and a walk-in closet with built-ins and a makeup vanity.

The second floor is home to two full bathrooms, a bonus room, and the other three bedrooms. The sellers used one of the bedrooms – which features built-in bookshelves and a wet bar with a mini-fridge – as an office.

In the backyard, a built-in stone hot tub and a spacious bluestone patio with a gas fire pit offer even more opportunity to entertain, and there’s plenty of room for guests to park on the heated driveway and in the two-car garage.
