On the lot of what was once a historic home in the Forest Hills area of Jamaica Plain are now eight luxury town homes.
The 115-year-old Victorian was torn town to make room for the units, Stephen Ballas, owner of the Ballas Group and developer on the project said, creating 20,000 square feet of space to construct three buildings.
The project was met with some hesitation among community members at first, but Ballas said he worked closely with neighborhood associations to make sure the buildings blended in to the area, while still having elements of contemporary design.
“We wanted to keep people happy,’’ he said.
55 and 57 Wachusett Street each have three units and 59 Wachusett Street has two, all in a “loft’’ style that includes high ceilings and big windows.

The three units at 55 Wachusett Street are the first units to hit the market, with a starting price of $729,000. The others are expected to go up for sale in the next few months.
The condos are all three-bedroom units with two and a half bathrooms, plus two parking spots.
“It’s a unique project for the city,’’ Ballas said. “They are all very spacious units and contemporary builds with luxury.’’
The Wachusett Street condos fit into a growing luxury market in Jamaica Plain. Earlier this summer the Olmsted Place complex opened after a long approval and building process. According to Zillow, home values in the Jamaica Plain have risen 5.5 percent in the last year.
