To make it clear it belongs in this renowned Quincy neighborhood, developers of the Meriel Marina Bay apartment community expanded the boardwalk not only to reach the front door, but also to flow around the building like waves at a rocky point, dramatically expanding the public walk.
One of the two buildings by developer Hines is complete and open — the north one. When the south building is unveiled later this year, there will be 352 apartments ranging from studios to three-bedroom units.
The model is a two-bedroom unit of 1,088 square feet on the left side of the north building on the second floor, offering a balcony large enough for a table and at least two seats and providing a view of the blue masts bobbing at the marina and Boston Harbor beyond.
The ceilings are 9 feet in all of the units, and that height is immediately apparent in the model, where you enter into the kitchen, which has white quartz counters. The kitchen also offers stainless-steel appliances, including an electric stove, a breakfast counter with seating for two, and cabinets that are a light gray, compliments of a laminate covering.
From the kitchen, you can see into the dining/living area, which acts like a rectangular peninsula separating the two bedrooms. The exterior wall is actually a glass door, framed by windows, that leads to the balcony.
The master suite in this unit is to the right of the dining/living/kitchen area. One wall is occupied by three windows that bring in natural light. There is a walk-in closet and an en suite bath with a double vanity, porcelain-tile floors, and a shower with subway tile and a glass door. The second, smaller bedroom — with two windows — has the same features for the most part, but on a smaller scale. The bath has a single vanity, for example.
Like many newer apartment communities, pets are welcome. After a waterfront walk, bathe your canine at the Bark ’n’ Bubbles pet grooming station. There is no covered dog run, as some apartment communities have. But neighboring Squantum Point Park allows dogs on the beach all year, according to the Department of Conservation and Recreation.
The ground floor and the upper level of the development are airy public spaces offering a main club room with wireless Internet access, a television, fireplace, kitchen, and lounge seating; game and entertainment lounges; two conference rooms; and cyber cafe areas. Outside, there is a swimming pool with gas grills, a seaside lounge, and a fire pit. Other amenities include a free shuttle to North Quincy Station on the MBTA’s Red Line, a fitness center, cardio and yoga/group class studios, and secured storage. Each unit has its own stacked washer/dryer.
