Lawrence saw the biggest year-over-year increase in rent, according to a report the Zumper real estate search site released Tuesday — with the median cost of a one-bedroom jumping 15 percent in May to $1,460.

Beverly logged the second-biggest increase (11.9 percent), with Quincy (11 percent) not far behind. Cambridge, Boston, and Brookline were ranked the most expensive communities for renters. The least costly were Brockton, Haverhill, and Worcester.

The median rent for a one-bedroom unit in Massachusetts was $1,872 in May.
